Curtin Rugby was essentially
started off in 2005 with Coach Tim recruiting Stanley and his cousin Aaron to
join the Miri Division Rugby Union(MDRU). Stan and Aaron then developed team
together and decided to enter the 1st ever Miri 10s Tournament at the MMC
field. After 2005, both Stan and Aaron left for Perth thus leaving the task of establishing
Curtin Rugby Club(CRC) as a club registered under the Student Council(SC) to
the junior players. The founding members of the club were Azfar Zubri Safri,
Alvi Ahmat Narawi, Joseph Sipalan Junior, and Nicholas Gala Bato.
CRC was an
official club under SC by the year 2006 and since then have actively
participated in local tournaments in Sarawak. CRC held its first Curtin 7s Tournament
in the year 2008 and hopefully will continue to do so in the years ahead. With
MDRU taking CRC under its wing, CRC is now officially registered under the MDRU
as of the year 2008/2009.
For the year 2009, the current President is Karibi Sopriala Ambrose-Hart, and Vice-President is Ahmad Lutfi Bin Zayyani.
